Moto's upcoming smartphone, the Z2 Play is rumored to carry a smaller battery life than its predecessor. Owned by parent firm Lenovo, the new Moto Z2 Play is expected to run the latest Nougat operating system out of the box. Lenovo after the acquisition of the Moto franchise has been relatively slow in rolling out software updates, unlike earlier times when Moto was comparatively quicker than most OEMs in bringing out frequent software updates.

The Moto Z2 Play will be unveiled on Jun. 08 according to details from Digit. Moto recently had a letter swap where the 'X' series of smartphones is now replaced by the 'Z' series indicating the new flagship devices will now be a part of 'Moto Z' lineup. The display on the smartphone will reportedly be 5.5-inches in size with an unchanged resolution of 1080p.

Popular tipster Evan Blass, in his report on VentureBeat, suggests that Moto has decided to stick to a 5.5-inch screen on the Moto Z2 Play is likely due to the compatibility of MotoMods where smartphones can take in accessories at an additional price. That said, the smartphone will be powered by a Snapdragon 626 SoC, successor to the Snapdragon 625. With 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage onboard, the device will be offered in color choices like Lunar Gray and Fine Gold.

Camera specifications of the Moto Z2 Play include a 12MP camera on the back with a f/1.7 aperture lens featuring dual auto-focus technology. The front facing camera has retained its image resolution limiting to 5MP in size that was also seen on the Z Play. Moto will also release two other smartphones, the Moto Z2 and the Z2 Force.

That makes it four devices for Moto including the Moto Z2 Play with reports indicating that Moto will also unveil a new Android-based tablet this year. While the device specifications for the Moto tablet is unknown, it will feature a productivity mode by pinning two simultaneous applications side by side.
