Users of the OnePlus 2 device are waiting for the much-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat to come after numerous Android devices have already received the mentioned update. Unfortunately, a customer email said that the Chinese multinational tech company behind the device will be no longer supply updates for it.
The reply of the company behind OnePlus 2 was posted in the XDA forum where the owner posted the transcript of his conversation with a OnePlus customer support representative. The representative said outright that OnePlus 2 will be not getting the long-awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update.
"As much as we would like to give the latest update on OnePlus 2, we've discontinued updates for dated devices," the transcript reads. Currently, there is no official confirmation about the Android 7.0 Nougat non-update on the OnePlus device.
In an article published by Android Headlines, the company not giving the Android 7.0 Nougat update to the users of OnePlus 2 is notable for two reasons. The first one is that the device is still under the two-year marker.
The two-year marker for the OnePlus 2 gives the users an expectation that it would still receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, even if it's the device's last update ever. The smartphone device was launched initially with an Android 5.1 (Lollipop) operating system and it further received an Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) update when the OnePlus 3 was launched in the market.
Users of the OnePlus 2 would make sense if they are still waiting for the Android 7.0 Nougat update, which is supposed to be the second major update for the device. It would not be a valid reason for the users that the company is already focusing on the launch of the OnePlus 5 because the device received an update during the launch of OnePlus 3.
It was also reported that the OnePlus 2 may not receive a test with the Android 7.0 Nougat update but it received a test with the Android 7.1.1 operating system. The test for the OnePlus device was done last March.
The second notable reason for this news about OnePlus 2 and Android 7.0 Nougat is the news on OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T receiving Android O update. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed on his Twitter account that these two devices would still get some software-wise support despite the upcoming launch of OnePlus 5.
