Zombie apocalypse movies and series have been hitting the screens, leaving several to wonder whether they could make it out alive if this attack were indeed to happen. Now, a new map of the US could be a helpful survival tool if this were to take place.
Safe Hiding Place During Zombie Apocalypse
The Daily Mail reports that this map reveals the safest or most prepared states across the US. Based on the map, Wyoming is a safe haven while California is a trap. The map, created by Insuranks, can be accessed here.
The researchers utilized over a thousand Google searches in order to create the map. This tool shows that, in such a case, people should avoid congested areas, such as Texas and New York City. On the other hand, mountainous terrains, such as those in Montana and North Dakota, are better hiding places.
Though a zombie apocalypse remains a sci-fi concept, this new map incorporates elements from the hit series The Last of Us. These elements include how zombies overran Boston and how clickers barely reached the Midwest.
According to MSN, the map made by Insuranks generated data from search terms to see how each state was ranked.

Safest and Not-so-safe States in the US
California falls last in the rankings of preparedness. This is particularly true for those in densely populated areas, such as Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Other hiding places to avoid included Pennsylvania, Florida, and Texas. These three states have dense populations, with 13 million from Pennsylvania, 21 million from Florida, and 28 million from Texas.
However, California outranks these three in terms of population, as it houses over 40 million individuals.
Such data aligns with a 2015 study done by researchers from Cornell University. The team, back then, focused on a sci-fi zombie apocalypse as a disease modeling approach.
The team mentioned previously that cities would quickly fall. However, in areas with less dense populations, zombies would take weeks to penetrate and months to arrive at the northern mountainous zones. They stated that, if one wants to survive a fictional zombie apocalypse for as long as possible, one should head for the northern Rockies.
After four weeks of attacks, the majority of America would have fallen. However, it may take quite a while for zombies to reach the US's most remote regions. Based on the new map, these regions include South Dakota, North Dakota, Vermont, Alaska, and Wyoming.
These are the least populated states across the US. Wyoming has a population of 580,000; Vermont has a population of 630,000; Alaska has a population of 730,000; North Dakota has a population of 770,000; and South Dakota has a population of 820,000.
Vermont is situated in New England, which is greatly populated but mostly full of farmland and forests. Most individuals from the area are self-sustaining farmers. This makes them some of the most prepared individuals if zombies were indeed to attack.
