The results showed that vegan, vegetarian, and lacto-ovo vegetarian diets significantly lower the risks of having cancer, heart disease, and early death of people.
The umbrella analysis found a preventive effect against multiple cancers, such as liver, colon, pancreatic, lung, prostate, bladder, melanoma, kidney, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Dr. Capodici highlighted the significant health advantages enjoyed by lacto-ovo vegetarians, who allow dairy and eggs but abstain from meat, poultry, and fish, and vegetarians, who neglect animal flesh. Strict veganism, which forbids the use of any product originating from animals, produced the strongest results.

Dr. Federica Guaraldi, coauthor of the study and medical director of the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences in Bologna, Italy, advised against ingesting unhealthy plant-based foods like fruit juices, refined grains, and processed snacks, as these may negate the advantages of a plant-centric diet.
Although they acknowledged the influence of lifestyle factors on health outcomes, experts affirmed the indisputable advantages of plant-based diets. Dr. David Katz, an expert in preventive and lifestyle medicine, said that plant-based diets offer broad benefits that extend beyond dietary choices to encompass lifestyle choices in general.
Furthermore, a new study has demonstrated the transformative effects of plant-based diets, independent of other lifestyle modifications. According to Christopher Gardner's Stanford Prevention Studies Center studies, people who followed a vegan diet saw notable improvements in their cholesterol levels, weight control, and blood sugar regulation.
Nutritional Superiority of Plants
Plants are superior nutritionally to other food sources. This is because of their high fiber content, essential vitamins and minerals, and strong antioxidant properties, all of which lead to better health. Even though the study found that plant-based diets had several health advantages, there was no discernible difference in the risk of hypertension and gestational diabetes between pregnant women who followed plant-based and non-plant-based diets. Additional study is necessary to examine the effects of food decisions and possible hormonal influences on health outcomes during pregnancy.
