The Obama Administration launched a new website to help students gauge the colleges and universities to pick to aid them in their pursuit of career without financial compromises. The metrics that the score card would be focusing on the schools that do would have good offers like graduation rates, or the rate of the students that graduate in every class; cost to low-income students and salaries of graduates and alumni. This metrics will be available on the websites www.collegescorecard.ed.gov
Though the website does not provide head to head rankings of the universities, it aims to make the work easier for students to weigh their choices on which college or academic institution to pave their way into the future. On a call with the reporters last Friday, it said that it's not a ranking but a mere show and lists of some "high- performing" colleges.
On the list are Barnard College, James Madison University, Cabarrus College of Health Science in North Carolina, and Colorado Northwestern Community College which all provide affordable education that could provide good paying job. The colleges Harvey Mudd, University of Maryland-College Park, Coleman University in San Diego and Bismarck State College as those who could provide students, who graduate on time, provide good jobs and pay off their loans immediately. And those colleges for low-income students are SUNY-Albany, UC-Irvine, Lake Area Technical College in South Dakota and Mount Aloysius College in Pennsylvania.
It's a mere comparison of the school, not a list. However Under Secretary of Education Ted Mitchell remarked that they are useful for students trying to pick a college.
"... My administration will release a new "College Scorecard" that parents and students can use to compare schools based on a simple criteria -- where you can get the most bang for your educational buck." -- President Obama, 2013 State of the Union
