These white vegetables were proven to lower the risk of heart diseases more than the brightly colored vegetables, Consumer Reports stated. A 10-year study has proven that 52 percent of people who eats seven ounces of white vegetables have a lower risk of getting stroke; unlike those who only eat two ounces of white vegetables a day.
The saying that "only eat brightly colored veggies" was from the 1980s. It was a time when people do not eat as many vegetables, which affects their health. On the other hand, it has stayed even after three decades and it has affected the intake white vegetables. Good thing, people are spreading the good news about white vegetables. With cauliflower, it can reduce the chances of getting cancer. This white vegetable is high in compounds called glucosinolates. Probably one of the vegetables that have the highest health benefits is white mushrooms. They are low in calories, fat-free, cholesterol-free, gluten-free, and barely any sodium in them. At the same time, white mushrooms have tons of selenium, potassium, riboflavin, niacin and vitamin D. not only those but mushroom is very tasty as it has the fifth basic taste, umami.
Other white vegetables like garlic and onions are very good anti-oxidants. Garlic also helps hair grow, lessens acne and make colds and flu disappear. Meanwhile, onions have an anti-inflammatory chemical called quercetin, which soothes discomfort from arthritis. It is very healthy as it lowers the risk of cancer, heart diseases and diabetes.
Last but not the least is white potatoes. Potatoes are high in potassium and fiber while being low in calories. Potatoes also have other nutrition like vitamin C, vitamin B6 and magnesium, in addition to small amounts of high-quality protein.
