Living on planet Earth has shades of everything, and not everyone is aware of how it showed its oddball-side tendencies. Despite all the attempts to decipher our planet, there is much that is unknown. Everything crawling on its outer mantel is fair game and it affects how the planet behaves.
1. Earth's wobbling is not natural anymore due to man-made influences.
Since 1899, the impact of human activities has cause wobble of 34-feet, that is caused by shifts in the seas and activity of the tectonic plates. Moving off its axis is not good, and all living creatures will be affected by it.
2. Massive changes where the magnetic field is going.
The magnetic field is just insane and shifting like crazy, the earth's prime meridian is marching towards Siberia. But, the catch is the shift is moving at 55 kilometers for the last 20-years. One observation is the iron core is acting unusual and weak fields are recorded with northward movement.
3. The biggest geode in nature was formed and found.
Discovered was the Pulpi geode, one of the biggest formed in the world and it is found in a Spanish mine. Made of gypsum crystalline forms from calcium sulfate and water, dated at 60,000 years when it was formed by the earth.
4. Earth pressurized a rock to create a diamond with another inside it.
What is more precious than a 24-karat diamond? It is a diamond that has a diamond formed inside it. Finding diamonds that have an outer diamond shell is one of nature's oddities for anyone.
5. A new mineral is discovered in Africa, call it one of the earth's oddities.
The discoverer found the mineral goldschmidtite, inside some diamonds and was discovered to be igneous rocks. Igneous rocks are similar to lava and this makes it a unique find that is amazing.
6. Skies had a weird two-colored sunset in the border of two-hemispheres.
A picture taken in North Carolina was two sides of a sunset, that is real but not very believable to some individuals. Showing two sides with weird color effects of a sunset, that is disconcerting to observers too.
7. A lost continent lies underneath Europe called Greater Adria.
Is it not surprising that a continent is right under Europe? The lost continent is called Greater Adria and it is responsible for the formation of the Alps when it subsided under Europe. Just other landmasses like others which also disappeared or broke up.
8. White Island volcano blew up without warning in New Zealand during December 9.
Nature is impulsive and does not give warning, even with detection equipments. When this happens people die, when White Island erupted there was no indication of it or any warning at all.
9. Earthquakes created weird ruptures in the US.
Ridgecrest, a town in the Mojave Desert got hit by a magnitude 7.1 quake that left a mark on the local landscape. Rupture created by the quake looked like shoe organizer for hanging and moving from San Andreas fault towards in-land California.
10. A quiet fault in California shifted without warning.
Last October, two quakes in July the same year was caused by the Garlock-fault, also known as quiet fault. Not many would have guessed that this quiet fault was the culprit, producing two quakes which last moved 500 years ago. If it goes all the way, this fault will measure 7.8 magnitude, and most Californians will shudder at the thought.
All the natural phenomena seen the past year only shows how little is known, and that the earth is unpredictable as well. If the odd-ball side tendencies do happen, there is nothing to do, and everyone should hope it will not be catastrophic.
