A few years ago, fresh air was the only thing that humans can enjoy for free. But now, fresh air has become a luxury to some countries in the world, like India. The Delhi air quality has been deteriorating for two years now, and the level has finally been crossed the threshold of safety now.

Fresh air for sale

The Gas Authority of India Limited or GAIL sponsored a campaign in 2016 which was motivated by a famous YouTube video on a social experiment that introduced the idea of selling and distributing freshly packed air in Delhi. At the time of the social experiment, Delhi was choked and fresh air was a need in the area.

However, it was only a warning and now, the disappearance of fresh air has become a sad reality. A lot of companies like Vitality Air, Auzair and Indian brand Pure Himalayan Air have come up with bottled fresh air that can be bought in Delhi and around the world.

The Pure Himalayan Air is selling a can of 10 liters of fresh air for Rs 550. The idea came from Vitality Air, a Canadian company that started selling bottled air. Then came Auzair, an Australian-based brand who are also selling their products in India. Their bottle of 7.5 liters of fresh air is around Rs 1,500.

Humans inhale approximately 8 to 10 liters of air per minute. So if we do the math, breathing fresh, clean air out of a bottle is a rather expensive affair that is impossible to achieve for most of the residents of Delhi.

Air pollution in Delhi

The residents of Delhi wakes up to headlines about thick smogs for a while now. A lot of people, especially parents, are alarmed knowing that their lungs could be damaged and children's lungs are not fully developed and that they can inhale a higher volume of air per body weight than adults. In these polluted times, this means that more harmful particles can enter their bodies.

With pollutants like nitrates, sulfates and black carbon known to enter the lungs and cardiovascular systems of children, it is no surprise that there are increased incidences of chronic bronchitis, asthma, wheezing, severe coughing and more.

Because of the harmful effects of air pollution in Delhi, parents are going out of their way to make sure that their kids will still be safe. The first thing that the residents of Delhi do is track the air quality. There are a lot of applications available that track air quality. It alerts you in real-time and it shows if the air is unhealthy or hazardous.

Air purifiers are also massive in India, as they keep their windows and doors shut and they turn on their air purifiers to keep the polluted air at bay. Houses are also constantly vacuumed to ensure cleanliness.
Indian officials are still trying to look for ways to solve the ongoing air pollution problem in India.
