SpaceX CEO thinks that all species, including humans, will become extinct in the future. He claims that everyone can prevent this if they live a multi-planetary lifestyle.
After a recent study revealed that humans are causing the Earth's sixth global extinction catastrophe, he took such a stance.
Factors such as natural temperature fluctuations or asteroid strikes have produced five major extinction events on Earth. According to The Jerusalem Post, the sixth one was everything but natural.
Sixth Mass Extinction Ongoing, Study Shows
Strong evidence reveals that biodiversity is currently suffering its sixth mass extinction.
Biologists from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, France, provided a complete assessment of evidence for this ongoing extinction event to underline this point.
Research lead author Robert Cowie told Phys.org that drastically rising rates of species extinctions and diminishing abundances of numerous animal and plant populations are widely reported. But others disagree that these events amount to mass extinction.
Cowie further stated that this denial stems from a skewed perspective of the issue that emphasizes mammals and birds while disregarding invertebrates, which make up a large portion of biodiversity.
Britannica said that invertebrates make up more than 90% of all animal species. Among the species found globally are clams, crabs, earthworms, insects, jellyfish, lobsters, sea urchins, sponges, spiders, snails, and squid.
Given that these species appear to make up a large part of the world's population, adding them was critical in verifying that we are presently in the sixth mass extinction.
According to the study's lead author, people are the only creatures capable of changing the environment on a big scale.
Elon Musk Proposes A Solution To Mass Extinction
According to Twitter netizen @Rainmaker1973, intense natural disasters have caused devastating biodiversity extinction five times in the history of life on Earth. Several scientists now believe that a sixth major extinction is underway, caused entirely by humans.
Elon Musk was surprised by this information. He responded to the tweet by saying that all species would become extinct due to the Sun's growth.
Elon Musk's solution? According to the Daily Star, he intended to make human existence "multi-planetary." SpaceX has made this a priority.
SpaceX's lofty ambitions to build Starship, a high-tech rocket with the world's most powerful Raptor engines, are motivated by a desire to colonize and live on Mars.
While the world's wealthiest man is engaged with SpaceX projects, he rarely provides public deadlines. When podcast host Lex Fridman asked Musk how long it would take SpaceX to land a human on Mars, Musk ultimately responded with a timeline.
According to him, the time frame might be between five and 10 years. He said that the need to build a Starship is a major impediment to landing humans on Mars, so the wait is so long.
