GANSBAAI, SOUTH AFRICA - OCTOBER 19: A Great White Shark is attracted by a lure on the 'Shark Lady Adventure Tour' on October 19, 2009 in Gansbaai, South Africa. The waters off Gansbaai are the best place in the world to see Great White Sharks, due to the abundance of prey such as seals and penguins which live and breed on Dyer Island, which lies 8km from the mainland. Shark Found Sliced in Half on Beach

A shark split in two was discovered on a Canadian beach. The reason for its death is unknown. The person who submitted the picture on Reddit stated that they saw the creature on a beach on Oak Island and were baffled why it had been chopped in two.

Because of its "nose form, white markings, and black backside of the dorsal," one user identified the shark as an "Atlantic Sharpnose."

Ladbible said Sharpnose sharks are tiny creatures with a streamlined shape that makes them susceptible to larger prey.

Atlantic Sharpnoses are regularly found throughout the western Atlantic coast from New Brunswick, Canada, to the Gulf of Mexico, eating tiny fish such as menhaden, eels, silversides, wrasses, jacks, toadfish, and filefish, according to the NOAA Fisheries website.

Others wondered how it died, thinking it was killed by a larger animal or split in half in a horrifying propeller accident.

Other Shark Sightings

This viral Reddit post comes after a man witnessed wrestled with a 12.5-foot tiger shark at the Padre Island National Seashore.

According to The US Sun, Christian Haltermann, 36, caught the huge predator while relaxing by the sea.

He was taken aback when he felt the big shark tug on his line.

Christian fought the beast to the shore in a two-and-a-half-hour tussle, which was by far the biggest animal he'd ever caught.

A third guy enters the camera and pulls one of the men aside as one of the sharks attempts to force itself ashore before being taken back in.

Meanwhile, another shark was seen devouring a seal while swimming near a popular beach in the United States.

According to the local media site Nantucket Current, the shark can be seen swimming near the Great Point Lighthouse, which is located near a famous Nantucket beach.

The encounter was confirmed by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy after the footage was shared on Twitter.

As they spot the giant ocean dweller, people can be heard reacting loudly in the background.

Beachgoers are urged to stay close to the beach and avoid swimming in seas deeper than waist-deep, according to local news station NBC10 Boston.

According to the outlet, these sharks usually hide in water shallower than 15 feet.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy encouraged beachgoers to report shark sightings in a tweet in response to the shark sighting video.
