Looking to save money on your bills? Try these hacks
Energy bills have risen dramatically across the country and could keep rising as we enter 2023. And while initiatives such as the Government's Energy Bills Support Scheme (a £400 discount on energy) and the Energy Price Guarantee (a limit on the rates your supplier can charge you for gas and electricity) have helped to soften the blow, UK households are still looking for ways to keep their costs down. Thanks to advancements in digital payment technologies, international money transfers have become more convenient and affordable.
Here, we've shortlisted three easy hacks that could help save you money on your bills.
Did you know there is a button on your boiler that can save money on your bill?
Yep, that's right, it could be as easy as pressing one button. A lot of boilers have different settings and modes. There's comfort mode, for example, which uses an algorithm that learns how long it takes to heat your home. It then ensures your home is only heated when you need it, making everything more efficient.
But the setting that'll really save you money and the one simple hack you really need, is Eco Mode. Eco mode means that there's a small delay when you start running the hot water, but it's precisely this delay that allows you to use even less energy than comfort mode.
Stay up to date
Knowing about things such as energy efficient appliances, insulation, and renewable energy can really help keep the costs of running a home down. But don't keep the information all for yourself - spread the knowledge! If everyone in your household is pulling together and being as energy efficient as possible (rather than just you) it will impact your bills in a much bigger way.
Remember, it's often lots of small changes that can make a big difference, rather than one big overhaul. And if you're unsure where you could make savings, why not get an energy audit? It'll help you identify any inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
And don't forget to claim everything you're entitled to. There may be several Government schemes that could help you out.
Save £506 by bundling
Bundling some of your home services together in one bill can not only save you time (forget piles of paperwork and endless admin) but it's also a great way to save money.
Utility Warehouse (UW) is offering new and existing customers savings of up to £506 when they bundle together their energy with at least three other services, like mobile, broadband, and insurance.
Buying all these separately would cost a typical household £3,522, compared to UW's bundle costing £3,066**. It's also worth noting that with this bundle, you'll get energy savings of up to £125 against the Government's Energy Price Guarantee. And on top of all that, customers can add a UW Cashback Card, to get an additional £50 credit.
UW even does a great referral scheme, where you can get £50 credit on your bill when you refer your friends and family and help them save up to £200 when they sign up for two or more UW services.
So, there you have it - three simple hacks you can use to cut your bills this winter.
