On Monday, a 26 year-old Norwegian man pleaded guilty to terminating a pregnancy without the mother's consent and also inflicting serious bodily harm. The prosecution now wants a 7 year sentence.
The women was 20 years-old and was in the 12th week of her pregnancy when this incident happened. According to the woman, this was his second attempt. The first time, he tried to pass off the abortion pills that he bought online as painkillers.
She said that after drinking the smoothie, she started experiencing severe abdominal pain and then miscarried the baby later that evening. She then asked her doctor to run the required tests to know whether it was due to the high dose of abortion medicines or other things.
According to The Local, the test results clearly showed a very high dose of abortion medicine to be the reason of the miscarriage.
The woman told the Norwegian court that "He tried several times to convince me to have an abortion, but it was not an option for me."
Tore Angen, the man's lawyer, says that his client deserves leniency and that it is completely wrong with a sentence of seven years, especially considering that he has confessed and has custody over a child from before.
The man told a Norwegian court that he "had a bad conscience and felt remorse, but I thought that it was the only way out.
I read online that pills could cause deformities if they did not work. After the first attempt didn't work, I thought that if it was my fault that the child was born with major malformations, I would not be able to live with that. So I decided to try again.
I felt like a total sh*t bag when dawned on me what I had done."
The court will be making a ruling on March 17.
