800-Bite Dog Attack Survivor Shares Surgery Results After Rebuilding Face

A woman revealed her new face after undergoing surgery following a traumatic dog attack.

Woman Mauled by 2 Dogs

Jacqueline Durand, a resident from Texas, shared her new look after surviving a traumatic experience. She was mauled by two dogs a day before her 22nd birthday in December 2021 when she entered the home of a couple she was dog-sitting, Daily Star reported.

The two dogs pinned Durand down upon opening the door and dragged her through the corridor and into the living room. The dogs tore her nose, ears, lips, and cheeks to the bone.

Durand's face was severely disfigured. She has since undergone a series of reconstruction surgeries and has been documenting her journey in a bid to inspire others and raise awareness about the dangers of dog attacks.

In an interview with CBS News, she said she didn't ask what had happened to her, so she decided to share who she is now and that she can't be scared of it. She also wants the dog owners to familiarize their animals and communicate with the sitters about them.

Durand's attackers were two rescue dogs - Bender, a boxer and pit bull mix, and Lucy, a German Shepherd - who she had already met once before.

According to her, they were lovely during their first meeting. However, their temper quickly changed when she walked through the door that fateful day. The dogs had been roaming free around the house and attacked her when she opened to enter the home.

Looking back at the incident, Durand admitted that she could feel her skin hanging from her face and thought she would die.

The dog attack happened for half an hour, and the police only discovered her because an alarm had been triggered when the front door was left open.

It took 37 minutes for the officers to rescue him because the aggressive dogs posed too much risk of harming the rescuers.

She was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery after losing 30% of her blood. Her parents told her she had to be resuscitated multiple times and was placed into a medical coma for a week.

She was released 60 days late. She has already gone 18 surgeries to rebuild her face.

Jacqueline Durand Shares New Face

Durand has been sharing her experience on social media, including TikTok and Instagram.

In July 2022, she had her 16th surgery and shared a snap of her face three hours away from getting her 17th surgery.

In November 2022, she shared another video of cuddling her pet dog. In the caption, she announced her 18th surgery update.

One commented that she was impressed that following the brutal attack, Durand still loved dogs. Another said she was proud of Durand because, despite her traumatizing story, she still has the light in her.

In February, she also shared a photo of her with the officers to commemorate her first anniversary since she was released. She thanked everyone who supported her, adding that she couldn't believe she would survive to share her story when she looked back at what happened to her a year ago.
