Ukraine Introduces New AI Spokesperson That Looks Like Rosalie Nombre To Give Timely Updates on Russian War

Ukraine unveiled its newest AI spokesperson. It looked like a real-life influencer and was created to give timely updates on the country's conflict with Russia.

Meet Victoria Shi -- Ukraine's New AI Spokesperson

Victoria Shi was created to keep everyone updated about the ongoing Russian invasion of the country. She was named after Ukraine's abbreviation of AI and "victory." Her appearance was inspired by Ukrainian singer and influencer Rosalie Nombre, who agreed to participate in the project pro bono.

Officials emphasized that Nombre and the digital person "are two different people." In the clip released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Victoria introduced herself, described her role and job functions, and stated that she was designed to protect "the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens abroad." The avatar is dressed in all black, has her hair pulled back, and is wearing studded earrings.

In her unveiling, Victoria spoke about her job. According to her, she will report operational and verified information of the consular department of the MFA of Ukraine to the public. She will be working with news journalists and inform them of the consuls' efforts to protect the Ukrainians' interests and rights abroad, respond to incidents or emergency situations and more.

Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian minister of foreign affairs, said in a statement translated by Google that the addition of an AI MFA spokeswoman was not a whim but rather a necessity for combat operations. Kuleba said that all procedures must be accelerated in order to produce the outcomes required for the nation.

The MFA has taken precautions to protect Victoria against hackers and digital counterfeiting. They add a QR code at the bottom of each video, which directs viewers to a text version of the announcement on the official government website. According to the MFA, if the video does not have a QR code, it is not deemed real.

However, they also made it clear that Victoria is not a substitute for an actual Ukrainian MFA official. She was created so that Ukrainian leaders may concentrate on other duties, like helping civilians, while saving the MFA time and money.

Ukraine-Russia War

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. President Vladimir Putin made up the notion that the nation was run by neo-Nazis and announced the deployment of troops to "demilitarize and denazify" Ukraine.

The appointment of Ukraine's MFA spokesperson coincides with other nations launching AI news anchors who are free of charge, able to read the news twenty-four hours a day, and multilingual. Taiwan, Greece, China, India, and Kuwait were some of the first nations to use lifelike AI anchors in newsrooms.

In related news, in November, a Ukrainian missile was able to sink Russia's ship. Many were surprised at how it happened because the target was beyond the missile system's radar. Researchers later learned it was due to a weird weather pattern that favored Ukraine.

Two R-360 Neptune anti-ship missiles collided with the Russian cruiser Moskva. Moskva was 50 miles (90 km) off the coast of Ukraine and 80 nautical miles (150 km) south of Odesa at the time of the attack.

Initially, many people found it inexplicable that Ukraine won because the cruiser was supposedly outside of its radar's detection range from the ground. As a result, many questioned how the Mineral-U radar found and downed Russia's cruiser.

A study from a group of Swedish physicists discovered that the success was actually caused by the capping temperature inversion, which occurs when warm water traps cold air at a lower height. Radar signals reach at least 15% farther than the geometrical horizon when they return to the planet's surface after reflecting off the atmosphere.
