Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla started quite a stir on Monday with his Tweet that hinted that Tesla was branching out of the auto industry into new fields.
Major new Tesla product line -- not a car -- will be unveiled at our Hawthorne Design Studio on Thurs 8pm, April 30

This teaser of a Tweet set the tech world ablaze with rumors regarding what this amazing new product could be. According to NBC News, the new hot product will most likely be a home battery system. The report cites a statement made by Musk during the last quarterly earnings call with investors.
He said, "We are going to unveil the Tesla home battery, the consumer battery that would be for use in people's houses or businesses, fairly soon." While he didn't give an exact date for the product launch for this home battery system, he did say "We're trying to figure out a date to have the product unveiling, but it's probably in the next month or two months. And it's really great; I'm really excited about it."
CNBC reported that according to Global Equities Research firm, Musk "has been testing residential stationary batteries in about 200-250 households in California for about last 2 years." If this is true, then Tesla may very well have decided that the product line is ready to be launched to consumers.
While Musk frequently uses social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, to tell consumers about big moments for the company, it has drawn some flack down on him from critics, who say he uses it to influence the price of the company's stock. Musk denies that this is true saying that a short term spike in the price of the stock "does no good for Tesla or me... it would be wrong," to use Twitter or other social media platforms to cause the price to rise.
If Tesla does introduce a home battery storage system, then the implications for the company could be huge. From there, it could bloom into industrial storage systems large enough to power factories during power outages or natural disasters. Systems like this would be beneficial to places dealing with long term power outages, such as the ones experienced in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Could Elon Musk be thinking about the future in the launch of this product line? Everything the CEO of the electric car manufacturer touches seems to turn to pure gold, and if this line of products sells as well as the vehicles manufactured by Tesla then investors are sure to be pleased with returns in the near future.
