The tragedy surrounding the Germanwings plane crash in France is hard enough without the knowledge that it most likely was planned for days by Andreas Lubitz. Investigators have indicated that the computers recovered from Lubitz' home contained very frightening evidence.
According to ABC News, Lubitz had been researching medical treatments for an as yet, unnamed health issue. While that's not disturbing in and of itself, when coupled with the fact that he had also been researching different methods for committing suicide it gives credence to the questions being asked to Lufthansa/Germanwings officials.
We reported earlier this week that Lubitz had suffered from major depression in the past. It was also noted that Lufthansa was made aware of the mental issues Lubitz faced, yet still hired him and allowed him to fly. Officials at the airline have said they're cooperating fully with the investigation and are not withholding any information from investigators.
New evidence also suggests that the plane was almost certainly crashed on purpose. The second black box from the flight has been recovered, and the data on it is disturbing to say the least.
According to NBC News, Lubitz reset the autopilot on the massive airliner, reducing the altitude from 38,000 feet to just 100 feet. As if resetting the altitude was not sufficient, the data also suggests that Lubitz increased the throttle more than once during the descent in an effort to guarantee the destruction of the plane.
Lubitz killed 149 other people in his decision to plummet from the sky, and now questions are being asked of the officials at Lufthansa, the parent company for Germanwings.
The officials have admitted to hiring Lubitz, even knowing of his bouts with depression. Because of this, the general opinion of the public is very dark concerning the company. After all, a man who is suffering from psychotic and suicidal tendencies should definitely not be placed in a position to hold the lives of others in his hands. Yet, this is exactly what the German company did when they cleared Lubitz for flight.
With the discovery of the second black box, officials hope to finally find answers regarding exactly what happened in the cockpit that day. As the workers continue to comb through the wreckage on the mountainside searching for clues, investigators continue poring over the information as it comes in, hoping to piece together the puzzle of the flights final moments in the air.
