Got a Hangover? Pedialyte to the Rescue!

There's good news for anyone who's ever suffered from a hangover. Now, there's a safe and simple remedy available for those who overindulge. The only problem is, you may have to wrestle it from your child.

It turns out Pedialyte, the rehydration drink designed for kids, is also a great recovery aid for the hangover. And now, Pedialyte is capitalizing on this expanding market by repackaging their product and launching a new ad campaign.

The "See the Lyte" campaign will feature a disheveled young man, who obviously imbibed the night before, standing in front of his refrigerator, searching for relief from his symptoms. And you can bet a bottle of Pedialyte will be well within his grasp.

Alcohol wreaks havoc on the body. The overproduction of urine that accompanies alcohol consumption leads to dehydration, which saps the body of sodium and precious electrolytes, like potassium and magnesium. It can also cause a drop in blood sugar, irritate your stomach lining, and dilate your blood vessels, which causes the headaches common to hangover. But worst of all, it triggers an inflammatory response from your immune system, which can lead to a whole new cascade of health problems.

And it's not simply the alcohol that's to blame, it's the way it is processed by the body. When the liver processes ethanol, it creates byproducts, primarily acetaldehyde, which triggers the feelings of a hangover.

But now there's Pedialyte to the rescue. The same ingredients that help kids recover from dehydration will now be geared toward hungover adults. And the folks at Pedialyte are even commandeering celebrities to help endorse their product, including Miley Cyrus and Pharrell Williams.

Abbot Laboratories, the makers of Pedialyte, are also designing a powdered version of their drink, for those "on the go" hangovers. The adult versions will come in larger servings with kicky new flavors like strawberry, lemonade, and orange.

So the next time you plan to over imbibe, be sure to stock up on the Pedialyte before heading to the bars.
