Facebook's most recent update will likely boost your social life. The biggest social networking site has revealed its latest update of helping users find concert tickets and parties, events or any whereabouts within the neighborhood.
Facebook has become not only a niche for its 1 billion users but also an avenue for invitation for social gatherings. And now, the site has finally clutched on the role and restored channels where users can locate, share and attend affairs.
This new feature boasts of getting users to various kinds of events -- like music, food and drinks, sports and fitness, clubs, performing arts, charities, name everything you like. Now, the events tab can get you where you want to go.
Several companies that have chances to catch event discovery have perhaps missed the opportunity. For instance, Eventbrite seems to be stagnant on ticket sales alone, although signs it wants to venture on something else is starting. While Foursquare, on the other hand, seems to do nothing even if it knows where the party is and where the people are.
Apart from Facebook, apps such as Songkick and DoStuff have been doing good in providing a comprehensive calendar of activities and events and giving a list of nightclubs nearby. But Facebook's omnipresence made them the new one-stop shop.
With about 450 million users since July, the company is finally getting inside the social circle. The new update will plug events, allows page subscription of party throwers, provide option to buy tickets, send reminder notifications and more.
"For Facebook to want to build a standalone app, it typically either wants to stifle potential competitors or test new ways of interacting with users," Alan Pelz-Sharpe of Digital Clarity Group said. "Over time, those users will hopefully be reintroduced back into the core Facebook family."
