‘Piggy Bank’ The Sea Turtle In Thailand Dies After Blood Poisoning

The sea turtle in Thailand that has eaten almost 1000 coins have died yesterday. Osmin or "piggy bank" the sea turtle has died off of complications from her surgery to remove the toxic coins inside of her.

"Piggy Bank" the sea turtle has undergone two surgeries to remove the coins inside her body. It has been eating the coins that people were throwing at it inside his pond in Chonburi province. Just a week ago, Osmin or "piggy bank" has been eating and swimming perfectly fine, reported BBC. However, the 25-year-old Thai sea turtle has fallen into a coma after having intestinal problems. It was during the second surgical procedure of the beloved turtle that the complications occurred, on Sunday.

She has been carrying 5kg (11lb) of coins. The mass of the metal is so heavy that it has cracked her shell. The first procedure was very successful. However, after some time, the surgical procedure has left a big space in the sea turtle's stomach, it got an infection. "Piggy Bank" the sea turtle and her stomach has twisted it and blocked the blood flow in her body, CBS stated.

"We planned to return her to the Royal Thai Navy Turtle pond on Thursday. Unfortunately, she developed intestinal volvulus and strangulation on Saturday," Nantarika Chansue, a lead veterinarian at Chulalongkorn University's faculty of veterinary science, described in a Facebook post after performing the turtle's second operation. The coins were really toxic for Piggy Bank, the sea turtle. It was 200 times higher than normal. Osmin also got toxemia, nutritional deficiency, immunodeficiency, and stress. The sea turtle in Thailand did not wake up after it.

It was the infection and a space in the stomach that really killed Piggy Bank, the sea turtle. The doctors said they did all of their best but it was not enough. They really wanted to save Osmin but it was too late.
