The latest news from the Death Valley national park, some ancient footprints fossils have been stolen from the national park situated in the United States. The footprints fossils which have been stolen are very much ancient, about 3 to 5 million years in age.
According to CBS Los Angeles, two unknown men were seen in the area of the Death Valley National Park, where the fossils have been stolen. With the help of the local people, investigators try to identify these two men. However these two men are not considered as suspects till now, but they might have witnessed the crime and can help with the case.
"It's illegal to collect fossils, rocks, or anything else in National Parks. The purpose of National Parks is to conserve the landscape and everything it contains for the next generation," the Death Valley National Park superintendent Mike Reynolds said in a statement. The news of stealing of footprint fossils was confirmed when the scientists were on their regular visit schedule. They discovered that the fossils were removed from the national park.
The Mercury News reported that a reward of $1000 has been offered by the National Park Service for the person or group, who will provide some information leading to the arrest of the culprits or conviction of whoever took the fossils from the Death Valley National Park. Someone can provide the information to the National Park Service through phone, text message or email.
These footprint fossils were formed by 3 to 5 million years ago by some mammals and birds in an area of muddy lake shore. Being so ancient fossil, it was a precious historical thing to be taken care of. The Death Valley National Park is called the largest national park of the United States amongst the lower 48 states. The national park has also been declared as an International Biosphere Reserve.
