Shenzhen-based smartphone maker OnePlus is expected to unveil their upcoming flagship smartphone for 2017. The internet is fairly confident about the new device OnePlus 5 with reports indicating that the Chinese firm has decided to skip the number 4 because it's considered to be unlucky in the Chinese traditions. Device sketches for the new smartphone have been listed on numerous websites mostly revealing mostly everything about the upcoming model.
Hand-drawn sketches for the OnePlus 5 smartphone indicates that OnePlus has decided to opt for a dual-panel setup on the back with reports from GSMArena revealing the top portion of the smartphone will be ceramic instead of a glass panel. This helps in achieving better signal transmission on the device.
The back portion of the OnePlus 5 smartphone sports a dual-lens camera, with dual-LED flash rumored to have an image resolution of 12MP on both the lenses. The report says the dual-panel approach has been inspired by Google Pixel devices that were launched in 2016. Coming to the sides, OnePlus will implement a notification slider, which helps in silencing all notifications without the need to unlock the device and then manually turning them off while on the commute.
The OnePlus 5 will also be equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack alongside a USB-C port for data transfer and charging the smartphone itself. The bottom portion of the device seems to be secured by two Penta lobe screws where the speaker grill is also visible from the sketch. OnePlus stated that it plans to launch their new smartphone in the summer according to an exclusive statement to The Verge.
There are two front-facing cameras on the OnePlus 5 in a rare move by the manufacturer, which will be appreciated by users who take a lot of selfies. The left portion of the smartphone includes the volume button alongside the notification slider. However, the only missing portion is the right side of the device likely indicating that it will carry nothing except the power button.
