Nokia 6 Smartphone is Receiving Android 7.1.1 OTA Update

Nokia's budget smartphone, the Nokia 6 has begun receiving over the air software updates that will bring Android Nougat OS v.7.1.1 to the device. It is the first Nokia branded smartphone sold by HMD global who had promised earlier about frequent updates to all Nokia smartphones. At the moment, the smartphone is currently being sold in China only with further plans to expand its market worldwide primarily to the United States.

According to reports from the Android Authority, the new OTA update for Android Nougat OS on the Nokia 6 smartphone is reportedly very small in size. The report estimates its size to be around 369MB with a build number 00CN_3_170. The 'CN' part in the build number clearly indicates that the update is currently live in China. Apart from the new Android operating system for the device, the latest Android security patch is also a part of the new update.

In addition to them, there are some Nokia-specific changes for the Nokia 6 device such as hardware updates for its USB drivers alongside some pre-loaded applications by the manufacturer. The device will now support dual-SIM standby for both 4G and 3G cell networks.

Alongside the Nokia 6 smartphone, HMD will also be launching budget smartphones like the Nokia 3 and the Nokia 5 globally. All the three devices will be running the stock version of Android with regular updates that have been assured by the manufacturer. Hardware specifications from GSMArena include a 5.5-inch 1080p display on the smartphone.

Nokia 6 is powered by a Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor with Adreno 505 graphics onboard. The storage capacity is limited to 32 and 64GB internally with options for further expandability through a microSD that can take in additional storage up to 256GB in size. The phone is offered in two variants, one with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage while the other variant is slightly better with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
