Drinking Coffee Benefits: Aids In Weight Loss, Boosts Happiness, Increases Athletic Performance & More

As drinking coffee is known to have bad effects in some people, researchers have seen health benefits from drinking a certain amount of it. The studies were said to discover that coffee has many benefits aside from weight loss.

According to Medical Daily, researchers from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil discovered that drinking coffee has interesting benefits for the body. The team found out that drinking an amount of caffeine increases the body’s alertness and makes it respond to athletic activities more.

With that said, the study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology involved 40 young cyclists and divided them into three groups depending on their caffeine and other drinks that they are taking every day or week. The first group consisted of low-caffeine drinkers while the other two were moderate-caffeine and high-caffeine takers.

After assessing the health and performance. All three groups were given 400-mg caffeine pill an hour before one ride while some were given placebo after one ride. The result was then concluded that riders who took the real caffeine pill were found out to ride the bike 3.3 percent faster compared to those who had taken a placebo, which was only 2.2 percent faster.

People then reported that author of health book “The Coffee Lover’s Diet,” Dr. Bob Arnot explained other benefits of drinking coffee. Arnot stated that the polyphenols, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds make coffee taste good at the same time to have health benefits as well.

“A cup of dark roast may only have 6 milligrams, but good coffee can have 1,000 milligrams. To get these benefits, the threshold is 1,000 milligrams of polyphenols every day,” Arnot explained. He also has experimented on 30 cyclists and discovered that drinking coffee before exercising helps the body to process activities 30 minutes easier. Hence, drinking coffee before exercising indeed burns free fatty acids thus aiding weight loss. He also noted that caffeine also increases mood and happiness.

Nonetheless, Arnot also found out that drinking coffee after big fatty meal relieves the body of absorbed fat and decreases the amount of sugar taken in by the body. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine also believed that people could get similar health benefits from decaffeinated coffee as long as it is high-quality coffee.
