The Drone Racing League (DRL) has made a record using the specially designed battery-powered remote-controlled quadcopter. Regular drones are only capable of reaching speeds of around 40 mph miles per hour. World's fastest Drone has made a record of speed which is ¼ the speed of sound.
In a record set last week, the Drone Racing League has achieved a new drone speed record of 163.5 mph. To put it in perspective, it is not quite on a level with the world's absolute fastest sports cars, but it is, however, outranged pretty much every vehicle that has been seen on the road, as reported by Digital Trends.
The Drone Racing League (DRL) RacerX was handbuilt by Ryan Gury, who serves as Director of Product for the DRL, and a team of dedicated engineers who feel a similar need for speed. Their self-crafted quadcopter speedster weighs just 800 grams and runs on a 42V powertrain and twin 1,300-mAh lithium-polymer batteries.
However, there was a bit of trial and error involved in building the fastest racing drone. According to its makers, earlier prototypes of the drone burst into flames when hitting the highest point of speed. But the finished product runs on two 1,300-mAh lithium-polymer batteries, a 42 V powertrain and weighs just 800 g (1.76 lb).
To set the Guinness World Record, the DRL RacerX had to fly back and forth across a measurement course of 328 feet, with the official speed record resulting from an average of the top speeds achieved during these various flights. The drone has then managed to reach a top speed of 179.6 mph, but due to the averaging process that determined how the record was recorded; this did not count as the final record score, as reported by Gizmodo.
This record is almost fastest than any sports car. The record-setting flight video can be seen below.
