Following the huge Hurricane Dorian and the devastation it caused to the communities in the Northwest of the Bahamas, a smaller tropical storm is brewing and it might make a landfall in the North America area this week.
The tropical storm named Fernand was formed in the Gulf of Mexico. It has triggered the national weather agencies to issue tropical storm warnings across the Mexican coastline. Accroding to the advisory released early on September 3 by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Fernand should out communities under tropical storm conditions on Septemeber 4 and early on September 5. Strong winds and heavy rainfall should be expected. Parts of the Texas South should expect a significant amount of rain, the center report says. As of 1EDT, Fernand has a maximum sustained winds of up up 40 mph.
"The conditions that Ferdinand is in have become conducive for the gradual strengthening before the cyclone moves into the area of Mexico. However, since thr tropical storm is going to be covering a large natural area, circulation will help prevent storn intensification before it makes a landfall," the NHC wrote in its advisory.
Although this tropical small is relatively smaller than Hurricane Dorian, it also does not mean that it is not as dangerous.
"The primary threat of this type of storm is the amount of rainfall that it comes with. The huge amount of water that it brings could cause flooding in lower areas and mudslides in the higher areas in Mexico," the weather update said.
Tropical storms, small or big, brings with it two factors that greatly affect the weather -- rainfall and wind. Both could be disastrous, that's why it is important that people are kept updated with the latest conditions of the atmosphere.
For those who live in and around the area where the storm Fernand will pass, it is best to prepare before the storm sets in.
