The widespread Coronavirus is undeniably alarming, especially that the whole world is now already affected. This killer virus spreading across the world may have originally come from bats, from which a Chinese architect has pulled inspiration from the ability of these creatures to keep immune to protect everyone from the viral illness. Dayong Sun designed a wearable mechanism called "Be a Batman." This new invention consists of a fiber frame, shaped like bat wings and worn like a backpack.
A thermoplastic material is also stretched between supports. This encases the one wearing it in a "personal bubble" that will shield the user from catching the coronavirus. This particular device is equipped with UV lights heating up to temperatures so high, it will destroy and kill the pathogens in the air. The excessively high temperature then creates a covered sterilized environment.
The personal bubble wearable may be a promising invention that can kill coronavirus. Nevertheless, the World Health Organization (WHO) reminds the public that UV lamps are not to be used on areas of the skin because this kind of radiation can lead to irritation.
Design Mimicking the Culprit that Caused the Virus Outbreak
Even though the design replicates the culprit that theoretically brought in the coronavirus outbreak, a study shows that bats are slightly immune to the viral ailment. This is because of their flight abilities since they can raise the temperature of their body to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, they have a fast metabolism that can curb the spread of Coronavirus, as well as the pathogens in the air. With this, Dayong told Dezeen that this killer virus will be killed by a 56 degrees Celcius source--that's 133 degrees Fahrenheit.
The thermoplastic PVC cover of this device is similar to a car's windshield mechanism, where there's a heater wire between the glass to heat the ice and snow during the winter. However, Dayong admitted, surely there is still a lot of work to be done with engineers for real production. According to the architect, he pulled his inspiration from a famous fictional superhero, Batman, for both the project and the animal itself. He added this superhero is pushing the limits of the capabilities of a human, and the reality that bats are among the wild animals which are the possible sources of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Wanted: Investor
Dayong also said bats are mammal species, the same as human beings with different varieties, not to mention, long lives making for an ideal coronavirus host. Both species' body temperatures can rise as high as 104 degrees Fahrenheit while flying due to their accelerated metabolism, and drop back to normal as they rest. Such body temperature allows them to carry the virus while controlling its spread in their body.
At present, Dayong is in search of an investor to take this project concept into the real world. He shared too, that he is committed to sharing his services for free just to make this project happen. "Be a Batman" may be designed to stop an outbreak. However, it can be used too, as a "unique, private mobile space" for humans once COVID-19 is contained. Experts need to determine first, exactly how the virus spreads. Although not yet accurately determined, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believes it spreads from one person to another.
