The Internet has seen one of Google's latest projects as the tech giant recently posted photos of its driverless car.
While it looked pretty basic and somewhat funny, Google co-founder Sergey Brin said he believes that such a car has the ability to transform the transportation system worldwide. He and the other co-founder and CEO of Google, Larry Page, gave a talk at the KV Summit last week about the company's projects and why they seem to try so many things.
In their conversation, the two discussed how car ownership could be a thing of the past as they proposed a car sharing system. With shared vehicles in operation full-time, parking would not be necessary, allowing more space for moving. Self-driving cars are also believed to free the roadways' congestion since the human element is eliminated and movement will be synchronized through a computer system. Without the need for drivers to keep most of their attention on the road, seating positions could be reoriented into positions where human interaction may be enhanced and maximized.
Page and Brin also shared the criticism they received from the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs. The co-founders revealed that Jobs had the notion that Google keeps on trying to do too many things. Page, in response, thought that it was stupid to have a company their size and make it only do five things. He further added that doing many things at a time is good for their employees, since doing the same thing over and over again is not very exciting.
While the Google co-founders have so many things planned, especially with the driverless vehicle project, Brin admited that the idea is still pretty speculative. Yet, they are working hard to get the basics going. Getting the technology, he said, is the easy part. Knowing Google's innovativeness and ingenuity, while having sufficient resources, projects they conceive are not far from becoming a reality.
