Watch: Outrageous Monkey on a Bicycle Grabs and Drags a Toddler Along the Alleyway

Unbelievable things happen every day. This incident most certainly counts as one. Netizens are appalled by the footage of a monkey seemingly trying to kidnap a toddler as it drags the young child on the street.

The video shows the monkey riding on a bicycle, speeding along a narrow street in Tanjungsari Village in Indonesia. The monkey suddenly jumped off its bike and approached a mother with her three children sitting on a bench outside.

The monkey suddenly grabbed the child closest to it and held on to the toddler's clothing as it went speeding off. Bystanders who witness the scene screamed when they saw the monkey dragging the poor child along the street.

Finally, another man appeared and scared the monkey away from the toddler. The child was then seen scurrying back to her mother.

The footage fairly startled Twitter users, and some joked that they never expected ever to see anything like it. One user tweeted: 'A monkey pulled up in a monkey motorcycle and tried to kidnap a child. Yes, this is the craziest tweet I've ever tweeted.'

Another also wrote: '"A monkey tried to kidnap me" is a story no one would believe ... but at least it's on video lol.'

Things Aren't Always What They Seem

It was unclear to many people why the monkey attempted to 'kidnap' the child. Monkeys don't usually just do some heinous things, which is why social media users took some time to analyze the video.

Apparently, the monkey was wearing a collar with a rope attached to it, a Reddit user pointed out. The owner yanked the cord, which caused the monkey to go flying from one end of the alley to the other while steering its toy bicycle, the Redditor said.

Readers agree that the treatment the monkey was receiving was cruel, probably the cause of why the monkey acted in such a way. Some pointed out that the monkey wasn't trying to kidnap the toddler, instead was trying to hang onto her as the owner was pulling it away.

Other quickly felt guilty for poking some fun at the video. One of the comments shared how it was believed that the monkey was doing a 'training session'. This would explain why somebody was filming it in the first place.

Ethics for Animals Used for Entertainment

Animals, although seemingly put in pedestals as 'stars' of the show, are not meant to act and perform for the purpose of people's entertainment. Most of these creatures are even forced to perform until the day they die.

Truth be told, animals don't like being cramped up in cages and being asked to perform complicated tricks while being put under physical punishment if they don't oblige. This is why People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals discourages going to zoos and circuses.

Frustrated by years of confinement and abuse, some of these animals tend to snap. This could be the cause of erratic behaviour suddenly seen in these animals, such as the case of Shamu, the famous killer whale in Sea World.

Thanks to the efforts of the nonprofit organization, public opposition to zoos, marine parks, bullfighting, and other places that could potentially be sources of animal cruelty have grown stronger.
