Proud parents of a 15-week-old baby, named Lula, first noticed the strength of their daughter when they left the hospital. Tezra Finn-Johnston, 31, and Lula's father shared that his baby daughter learned to stand at eight-weeks-old after being inspired by seeing him watch strongman on Youtube.
The couple claimed Lula could already support the weight of her head at less than four months. According to Daily Mail, Lula was born on January 31, weighing just about 5 pounds and 9 ounces. She is considered to be on the 5th percentile, which means that her weight is less than 5% of other babies her age.
Due to this, Lula may be the youngest baby to have accomplished the achievement. However, records are only kept for those babies who can walk. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Reuben Robinson broke records when he took his first steps at just six months old.
Inspired by Strongman
According to the first-time dad, Lula was having a tantrum when she was about a month old; then he tried to sit her on his knee to calm her. But instead of sitting down, Lula just stood on his knee and would not bend her legs.
After that, Lula did it for a few more times, and eventually, her father thought that if she could do it when annoyed, she could also do it when she is happy. Tezra held and supported her, and she managed to stand up carrying her own weight.
Although everyone thought her ability was normal for many babies, he tried asking his mother and reading books and eventually discovered that babies could only carry their own weight at around nine months old.
The proud dad narrated that since the day they left the hospital where she was born, Lula was able to support her head a little more than she should. Upon watching the Babies documentary on Netflix about babies crawling, he put her down on the mat, and Lula was already trying to crawl a bit.
He and his girlfriend, Emily Derrick, noticed that Lula could also push herself up the mat and also lie on her front. Being a fan of strongman competitions, Tezra jokingly said that the show might have inspired Lula.
Another reason he could think of his daughter's strength is maybe because of an excellent muscle-to-weight ratio, based on the fact that she was a small baby at birth. More so, he also thinks it could be genetics because he has always been able to build muscle quickly.
Lula cannot walk as of yet, but her parents think that it might not be too long before she starts learning how to walk.
What Age Does a Baby Normally Learn to Stand?
A baby usually learns to stand supporting her own weight with both their hands being held at around 6-8 months, according to the NHS. Moreover, a Norwegian experiment also revealed that infants as young as four months old could be trained to stand, carrying their own weight.
But, despite babies having reflexes to stand, their legs are not strong enough to support their weight, so it is advisable to seek an expert opinion, especially if the baby does not put on weight and still could not stand after turning one year old.
