Like anything else in our lives, technology has made life just a little bit easier. Our smartphones are little computers that fit in our pockets, allowing us to connect with people and learn anything. Our cars have technology that helps us parallel park with ease. So, it should be no surprise that people will want smart technology in their homes, considering we spend much of our time there!

Homelight's Q3 2020 survey reveals real estate agents have clients that are interested in things like smart boards for work or school and they're looking for touchless features. Here's a look at some other smart technologies that'll take your home to the next level

1. Smart thermostats

Smart thermostats are more than just a way to control the temperature in your home! Some devices can connect with Alexa and have sensitive sensors that ensure every room is being heated or cooled properly. You can use the app to control the temperature or you can even use your voice on some devices.

2. Smart light bulbs

You may be able to turn off a light with The Clapper, but smart light bulbs can do quite a bit more. Smart bulbs are dimmable, change colors (some can do 16 million colors!) and can be controlled through an app on your phone. On the app, you can create fun light configurations and effects suitable for any occasion!

3. Smart locks

Locking your house may seem like a simple, almost mundane, thing in the world, right? After all, it's just a lock! Regular locks that've been replaced with smart locks gives homeowners the peace of mind in knowing their homes are secured. Homeowners can assign a passcode to whomever they choose and when that passcode is used, you'll know who is coming or going and when. Oh, and it's worth noting that these smart locks can be used on any door - be it an exterior door, an office door, a liquor cabinet and more!

4. Video doorbells

A video doorbell is a great way to improve your home's security as well as being a handy little gadget for convenience, too. Should a burglar want to break in your home, a doorbell camera will make them think twice. These doorbells are always recording and if something were to happen, that footage could be used as evidence or a clue as to what really happened.

But, it's not just a great security measure. You can use these devices to screen unannounced guests (like door to door salesmen), keep an eye out for deliveries, and it can also increase the value of your home. Oh... And your homeowner's insurance may get lowered, too!

5. Smart plugs

A smart plug can turn any regular device into a smart device. You could plug in a television, coffee maker, or a lamp into the plug and then control it via an app. You can also control the plug using Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri voice commands. A smart plug is a great investment, especially for those who have a tendency to forget to turn things off (like an iron or coffee pot) before leaving the house, because you can look on the app and turn the plug off if need be.

Gone are the days where you'd obsessively worry about things you may or may not have done before leaving the house. With smart devices, you can check your phone to make sure the doors are locked. You can adjust the temperature as you see fit from the office. You can monitor who comes and goes, and you can even communicate with delivery people without actually being at home.

Who knows what other aspects of our lives will be touched by technology? All we know is that it'll be interesting to find out!
