Pharmaceutical companies globally have been on the hunt for a vaccine ever since the news of the outbreak broke out. The end of 2020 and the year 2021 will be the year for vaccines. As the race heats up, we shall look into the various brands developing vaccines, their recent update and how it affects the global stock markets.

Vaccine List

There are various pharmaceutical companies who are developing Covid 19 vaccine across the globe. They are all in various stages of their trials and expect to release their vaccines soon. Few such vaccines are in the late stage of their clinical trials while others are in stage II and III. We list out some promising vaccines developed by some key players.

1) Pfizer - BNT162

The Pfizer sponsored AZD1222 is in the 3rd stage of their trials. The vaccine which is said be 92% effective, is all set to roll out by December.

2) Oxford & Astrazeneca - AZD1222

The Oxford and Astrazeneca sponsored BNT162 which is being developed along with help from Serum Institute of India, is on its 3rd stage of clinical trials. The results of the vaccine efficacy have puzzled scientists as few reports suggest a 92% effective rate while others maintain 62%. Nonetheless, the vaccine is said to be a game-changer due to its low production cost. The vaccine is derived from adenovirus from chimps. It is a replication viral vector form of the vaccine.

3) Moderna - mRNA-1273

The Moderna sponsored mRNA-1273 is also a vaccine which is in the 3rd and final stage of its clinical trials. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are based on mRNA strands. The vaccine has proven and effective rate of 90%.

4) Cansino Biologics - Ad5-nCoV

The Cansino Biologics sponsored Ad5-nCoV is a recombinant type of vaccine which is in the late stages of the clinical trial.

5) Sinovac - CoronaVac

The Sinovac sponsored CoronaVac is an inactivated type of vaccine. The vaccine is developed with formalin along with an alum adjuvant. The vaccine is in its 3rd phase of clinical trials.

6) Bharat Biotech - Covaxin

The Bharat biotech and National Institute of Virology sponsored Covaxin is another low cost vaccine being developed. The vaccine is on its late stage of clinical trials and is expected to roll out to the masses by next year.

7) Johnson & Johnson - JNJ-78436735

The Johnson & Johnson sponsored JNJ-78436735 is a non-replicating form of the viral vector. The vaccine is in its 3rd stage of clinical trials.

8) Novavax - NVX-CoV2373

The Novavax sponsored NVX-CoV2373 is another vaccine which is on its 3rd stage of clinical trials. It is a nanoparticle-based vaccine and is expected to be available by next year.

9) Gamelia Research Institute- Sputnik V

Gamaleya Research Institute and Acellena Contract Drug Research and Development sponsored Sputnik V is also on its 3rd stage of a clinical trial. The vaccine is a non-replicating viral vector type and is expected to be available by Dec 2019.

Apart from the names above, there are many other vaccines which are in the second stage of clinical trial and are expected to hit the market by next year as well.

How Vaccines Affect The Stock Market

The stock markets across the globe has seen major changes following the news regarding the vaccine. Companies like Pfizer, Moderna have come out and disclosed the efficacy of their vaccines. This has led to a surge in trade stock.

Pharmaceutical companies are expected to see a rise in investment as investors are eyeing the vaccine race. The race for approval has led to an anticipation of the windfall of business for the companies. Therefore the coming few months are expected to see major spikes following news of vaccine approval. The stocks of pharmaceutical companies have already witnessed the growth of 20-30 percentage.

Apart from pharmaceutical companies, vaccine delivery and other related industries are expected to see major changes in the immediate future a well.
