NASA to Build an ISS Replacement: Who is The Company Behind It?

The world's first private space station will soon be constructed in Texas as a substitute to the International Space Station (ISS).

At a briefing on December 22, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced that the Houston Spaceport and Axiom Space will partner in this literally out-of-this-world effort.

Turner observed that Houston experienced the most audacious challenges of various human beings. He added that the first headquarters for Axiom Space, a privately financed space enterprise, would be the Houston Spaceport.

Axiom Space will build its 14-acre facility at the Spaceport at Ellington Airport beginning 2021. According to Mayor Sylvester Turner, the center will serve as the regional hub for science, production, and trade.

Turner said the collaboration is projected to offer more than 1,000 high-paying workers, including architects to physicists, mathematicians, and machinists.

Mario Diaz, Houston Airport System Aviation Operator, said the relationship is a huge jump to understanding the region's reputation as the "Space City." 

Diaz claims this would be the impetus for other businesses to get in on the Spaceport action.

When Jim Bridenstine became NASA administrator, a few people asked him what to do with keeping up with ISS being in low Earth orbit. The proposal promoted by him and NASA experts is to allow private firms to create their own space stations. By committing to become an anchor tenant for such orbital installations, NASA will provide the required assistance.

Proposals were not introduced until 1998 following various administrations and architecture revisions. Since then, more than $100 billion has been spent in the facility by NASA. It also earns more than $3 billion annually from NASA. 

Around Axiom Space

The nod to connecting one of its own structures to the ISS has been earned by Axiom Space. Axiom proposed a plant at the Ellington SpacePort in Houston to produce space station components without waiting for Congress to give up NASA the budget. The organization would provide private educational centers for astronauts as well.

In addition to hiring 1,000 workers, the new Axiom plant contributes to building a commercial space station industry. It could affect other customers if a corporation could spend cash on constructing the pieces of a private space station. In an orbital test laboratory, Axiom should draw industrial consumers eager to pay for the same.

The location in Texas of the Axiom facility is no mistake, either. For obvious purposes, the Texas congressional delegation has sponsored NASA and, significantly, the private space industry, which has increased its footprint in the Lone Star State in recent years.

Reasonable old-fashioned strategies allow the House and senators representatives to embrace initiatives that would merge work in their states with sound room policies to further boost funding in upcoming years.
