Earth Day is commemorated every April 22 of the year. With each passing year, Earth Day becomes more significant as the global climate crisis worsens. Earth Day brings together millions of people by allowing all stakeholders to raise awareness and collaborate on crucial issues such as global warming, deforestation, and vanishing forest cover.
This year, earthday.org encourages everyone to "participate in the transition." In 1990, Earth Day renamed an "environmental campaign" that "works with over 75,000 collaborators in 192 countries to drive sustainable action for our world."
Earth Day 2021: Theme
The theme for Earth Day 2021 is "Restore Our Earth." As the theme, and it focuses on natural processes and emerging green technology that will help to restore the world's habitats. The theme thus rejects the idea that mitigation or adaptation are the only options for dealing with climate change.
Earth Day 2021: Importance
Since 1970, April 22 has been designated as Earth Day. From April 20 to 22, there will be a three-day workshop addressing all facets of climate action. A number of environmental issues are being prioritized this year, despite the pandemic. According to earthday.org, experts will discuss the following subjects at the digital event on Wednesday:
- Climate and environmental literacy
- Climate restoration technologies
- Reforestation efforts
- Regenerative agriculture
- Equity and environmental justice
- Citizen science
- Cleanups

Earth Day 2021: Activities
NASA Earth
According to Earth Sky, NASA is hosting a virtual Earth Day event From Wednesday, April 21, to Saturday, April 24. The space agency will focus on living more sustainably on our homeworld and exploring the links between Earth's atmosphere, water cycle, forests, fields, towns, ice caps, and environment.
Live presentations by NASA scientists, interviews with astronauts and scientists working in space, videos, interactive science material, a kid-friendly fun zone, a scavenger hunt, hundreds of downloadable tools, and more will be part of the #ConnectedByEarth program. Some of the content will be available in Spanish as well.
