Florida-based human space flight company Space Perspective has taken a new route of space tourism. The company planning to fly its passengers to the edge of space in a high-tech hot air balloon with a pilot and can carry eight passengers riding in a pressurized capsule suspended from the space balloon.
Space Perspective has announced that it is now taking reservations at $125,000 per seat on its Spaceship Neptune for flights in early 2024. This is a refundable reservation that is tiered in which higher down payments are needed in Year One and will decrease for later bookings.
Spaceship Neptune Test Flight
According to CNN, the inaugural test flight of the Spaceship Neptune took off on June 18, 2021, from the Space Coast Spaceport in Titusville, Florida. It took six hours and 39 minutes for the uncrewed space flight test to be completed, while cameras onboard the spaceship captured the stunning image of Earth as it ascended into the air.
Space Perspective said that the test flight is an important milestone for the human space flight company to ensure the safety of space tourists that are leisurely sightseeing space and Earth.
"We're committed to fundamentally changing the way people have access to space -- both to perform much-needed research to benefit life on Earth and to affect how we view and connect with our planet," the news outlet quoted Space Perspective founder and co-CEO Jane Poynter.
Space Perspective Announces Seat Reservation
Space Perspective reimagines the thrill of space exploration with the world's most gentle voyage to space, according to Spaceref. For those who wanted to add another travel adventure to their bucket list, the trip to space aboard a high-tech hot air balloon might be the perfect adventure to take.
The company is now accepting reservations for their Spaceship Neptune for only $125,000 which will take them 20 miles above the Earth's atmosphere in a six-hour trip.
The space balloon could carry up to eight passengers and experience the sensational 360-degree view of the planet Earth from the comfort of the plush, reclining seat in the capsule, which also has a bar and a bathroom.
The transformative opportunity opens the possibility of space exploration to a wider audience that was once only available for astronauts. The Spaceship Neptune is said to be the best option for those who have considered it too risky and too expensive to fly to space aboard a rocket.
"Throughout the six-hour journey, all guests will enjoy the best reclining seats in the house to soak in the 450-mile, 360-degree view, an open call on dress, champagne, and a bathroom," Space Perspective said in a press release, according to CBS News.
Although civilians have flown to space as paying passengers via the US or Russian rockets before, Space Perspective said that their company and other human space flight companies are offering a much different experience to their passengers.
