Amazon Launches Micomobility Hub in the UK

Amazon launched its first micromobility hub in the UK, which plans to deliver one million packages annually using walking and electric cargo bikes. The project aims to assist Amazon in reaching its 2030 carbon neutral delivery target of 50% of all deliveries.

According to Amazon, carbon-neutral trips such as delivery on foot and e-bikes would help replace thousands of traditional van trips. The company already runs 1,000 delivery vans in the UK. The US should expect a new Rivian-made lineup to be launched in the country later this year.

Amazon has not yet released any information regarding e-assisted vehicles. The vehicle in the talk seems different from a traditional cargo bike and may resemble many tracks, which DPD originally proposed.

Electric cargo bikes that looked like mini trucks increased in popularity among delivery companies. FedEx uses e-bikes, while UPS uses cargo bikes. The pizza company Domino's partnered with Red Power Banks to deliver its pizza.

Amazon's Renewable Energy Projects including Solar Energy and Wind Energy

Amazon plans to operate using renewable energy. The company's goal is to complete the project by 2025. To fulfill the effort, 30,000 modular solar panels would be installed at Amazon facilities located at Milton Keynes, Manchester, Coalville, Bristol, and Haydock.

"Doubling the number of on-site solar projects at our facilities across the UK further demonstrates our ambition to power our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025 and represents an important step on our journey to be net-zero carbon by 2040," said John Boumphrey, Amazon UK Country Manager.

He added that the new cargo bikes and growing electric vehicle delivery would help the company reach zero and mission customer deliveries in the coming months.

Amazon is the biggest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the UK. The company does not only focus on solar energy but also on wind energy. Its first commissioned project in Scotland is the Amazon Wind Farm Scotland - Beinn a Tuirc 3. The project will be followed by the Amazon Wind Farm UK - Kennoxhead (Phase 1).

Government Commends Amazon on its Zero-Carbon Goal

Government officials recognize Amazon's effort to reach a global zero-carbon future.

Transport Minister Trudy Harrison said that the government and the industry are both working hard in achieving the zero-carbon goal. Harrison added that they support sustainable transport that would help create economic opportunities. It would also support thousands of jobs around the UK.

On the other hand, Energy Minister Greg Hands said that it's wonderful to see Amazon moving away from expensive fossil fuels. For him, the country could benefit from the UK's green jobs.

Cllr Mete Coban, Hackney Council Cabinet Member said, they were pleased to have collaborated with Amazon to remove from the road in favor of cargo bikes. He believed the effort would help reduce emissions and improve air quality for people in Hackney and beyond.
