Engineers are quick at trying to get robots to look and act more like humans, robotic reports recently specified. Ameca, a humanoid robot, in particular, has been developed that can purse its lips, wink, grin, and frown.
The android, a Fudzilla report specified, was given 23 different new actuators; basically, an element of a machine that regulates movements, and the life-like bot exhibited its capabilities in front of a mirror in a video posted online.
Ameca was developed by Engineered Arts based in the United Kingdom and is supposed to be the most advanced humanoid robot in the world.
The robot resembles the machines in I, Robot, the hit movie by Will Smith, and has been seen interacting with humans at different tech conferences.
Human-Robot Interaction
Specifically designed as a platform for development in future robotics technology, Ameca is the ideal humanoid robot platform to create an interaction between a human and a robot, Engineered Arts reported on its website.
This latest upgrade of Ameca sparked a lot of comments from social media users, which include many who said it was incredible, not to mention mind-blowing work.
As specified in a Stealth Optional report, in the robot's own words, it is designed as a study platform for human-robot interaction. Essentially, communication and interaction with humans are this robot's major tasks.
This robot is designed to interact with humans in the same manner as humans. She's built with 17 motors in her face that enable her to make virtually all facial expressions. More so, she's also using her hands and arms to make gestures while speaking, just like human beings.
The First Advanced Human-Shaped Robot
Developed by UK-based Engineered Arts, Ameca is the most advanced human-shaped robot in the world.
A year ago, the company posted a video of a wide range of human-like facial expressions of Ameca, and that particular video went viral. This very realistic humanoid robot was the center of attraction during CES 2022.
In the said uploaded video, Engineered Arts demonstrates their robot reacting to multiple actions. Moreover, the video begins with the robot following a human's finger.
As the human being moves his finger from side to side, up and down, and around, the robot is realistically following the object.
Almost Human
Most impressively, the robot's eye tracking and facial animals are insanely precise. Compared to the exaggerated look of the previous video, the reactions of Ameca may finally breach the uncanny valley.
Furthermore, as the human gets closer to the robot's nose, it begins to recoil its neck in disgust. Its eyes track as the finger gets closer and relax when it retracts.
Lastly, as the nose boop finally takes place, the Ameca robot is attempting to grab the human's hand in a moment of pre-programmed rage, a report from Stealth Optional said.
