Five of the world's richest men, according to Douglas Rushkoff, a media theorist, flew him out to a so-called "secret meeting" to seek tips from him on how to survive political turmoil or even climate disaster.
The theorist said, instead of questions about rebuilding or renewable energy though, these wealthy men wanted to find out how they would keep guards from turning on them, not to mention, how they could safeguard "food stores from peasant's hands," a Futurism report specified.
In a media report, Rushkoff said he tried to reason with these men adding that he made pro-social arguments for partnership and solidarity as the best strategies for long-term, collective challenges. The billionaires rolled their eyes at what must have sounded like "hippy philosophy" to them.

Spending on Technology
According to Rushkoff, these wealthy people have scrambled to acquire stylish bunkers and multiple firms with "post-apocalypse" products to hawk have reached out to him to help them market their wares.
Vivos, a startup company, is selling underground apartments that can be put up in missile silos, according to a similar MSN report, as well as other decommissioned military sites. Such bunkers include movies, dining, games, and pools.
A big problem, though, is such bunkers just put off the unavoidable, said the media theorist. Their underground, vertical garden constructions, and sanctuary-in-place attitudes will make long-term survival more challenging.
Reports have said that it is grim that these wealthy people are not taking the warnings of Rushkoff seriously. However, if a forward-looking strategy for the future of Earth, does actually win the day, these wealthy individuals will still have their locked doors to hide behind.
Underground Bunkers
In 2019, CNN reported that a lot of the world's rich people, including "hedge fund managers, tech executives, and sports icons, have opted to design their own secret abodes to house both their families and staff.
The general manager of Rising S Company, Gary Lunch said their 2016 sales for custom high-end underground bunkers rose grew 700 percent compared to the previous year, while overall sales have grown 300 percent since the presidential election alone in November of that year.
Essentially, the plate steel bunkers of the company, designed to last for generations, can hold a minimum of one year's worth of food supply for each resident and withstand earthquakes.
Nonetheless, while some want to "bunker down alone," the said CNN report specified, others opt to ride out the apocalypse in a community setting that's offering an experience a little closer to the actual world.
Structures Built to Withstand Nuclear Strikes, Earthquakes
Developers of such community shelters like these frequently attain decommissioned military bunkers and missile silos constructed by the US or Soviet governments, sites that would amount to hundreds of millions of dollars to construct today.
These fortified structures are designed to withstand nuclear strikes and come equipped with power systems, blast valves, water purification systems, and Nuclear-Biological-Chemical air filtration.
