The U.S. Navy said it would no be releasing the videos of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) or unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) to the public.
The admission came after government transparency site The Black Vault requested a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
According to Live Science, the Black Vault filed the FOIA request to the U.S. Navy in April 2020, one day after Navy pilots saw high-tech aircraft moving seemingly impossible.
The Black Vault requested that the Navy turn over any and all other videos related to UAP.
According to The Independent, Black Vault website had previously shared a downloadable archive of every publicly available instance of UFOs.
U.S. Navy Not Keen To Share UFO Footage to Public
A Navy spokesperson underscored that the agency would not publicly share the footage to avoid harming national security.
"The release of this information will harm national security as it may provide adversaries valuable information regarding Department of Defense/Navy operations, vulnerabilities, and/or capabilities," wrote deputy director of the Navy's FOIA office Gregory Cason in a response letter.
"No portions of the videos can be segregated for release," per Cason.
Cason added that the Navy declassified the three UAP videos released in April 2020.
The footage was leaked to the media earlier and had already been "discussed extensively in the public domain."
Cason wrote that the Navy deemed it likely to release the videos without further damage to national security officials.
Interestingly, in response to The Black Vault's request, the Navy did not attempt to hide the existence of other UAP videos.
There are clearer videos of UFO encounters in the Navy's archives, but how many and what they depict remains a mystery.
About UFO Footages That U.S. Navy Saw
As reported by WION, top Pentagon officials showed unexplained UFO videos. Two top officials of the Pentagon - Ronald Moultrie and Scott Bray - appeared before the U.S. House of Representatives intelligence subcommittee and shared the declassified UFO videos.
A flashing triangle-shaped object in the night sky was seen in one clip. The other had a shiny, globular object dashing past the cockpit window of a military aircraft.
CBS News, per The Independent, had a program on UFOs in its "60 minutes" show in 2021 that included an interview with two former Navy pilots who were sent to examine a UAP sighting off the coast of San Diego in 2004.
The duo testified that reports of UFOs are 'frequent' and have been rising for over a decade. However, U.S. officials cannot describe some of these sightings.
People worldwide have long been fascinated with UFO sightings. There have been numerous cases where people witnessed it. However, no concrete evidence from the tapes has come out in the public domain.
