Mako Shark Sighted Near Brazilian Coast Leaves Beach Goers In Shock

Brazil beachgoers were shaken by the terrifying sight of a big shortfin mako shark washing up on the coast. The live shark was sighted thrashing around the surf scenes, not those from classic Jaws movies.

The shortfin mako shark is a large predatory shark considered one of the ocean menaces.

According to Oceana, the species known as Isurus oxyrinchus can reach 13 feet (3.9 meters) in length and weigh up to 1,260 pounds (545 kilograms).

An individual spotted the shark in Balneário Barra do Sul, Santa Catarina state in the southern region of Brazil; on Sunday Morning, he recorded the beast beaching the coast with a video.

The specimen was seen on the coast of Brazil and identified by Eloisa Giareta, a researcher at Rebimar Marine Biodiversity Recovery Program.

Beaching Beast On The Coast

Hugo Bornatowski, a Rebimar researcher, told the local media that newborns and juvenile mako sharks are captured for recreational fisheries.

In more coastal areas, adult mako sharks are captured by industrial fisheries.

AquaRio veterinarian Veronica Takatsuka Manoel said that there are several reasons why sharks are beaching the coasts.

The marine animal might see some fishing, attempted predation by other animals, or intoxication. But the local media said this could not be done since the shark returned to the deeper waters.

The shortfin mako is one of the fastest fishes in the ocean. They were also tagged as the fastest shark reaching speeds of about 43 miles per hour, Oceania added.

Recent Shark Attack

In November last year in Brazil, a group of friends had a couple of drinks in Jaboatão dos Guararapes. One of the groups went to pee in the sea.

Marcelo S. overlooked the caution signs of shark danger on the beach coast or did not take it seriously. While taking a piss, he was suddenly attacked by a shark. The aquatic beast bit one hand and part of his leg.

His friends tried to pull the motionless guy ashore. According to a Brazilian media report, help came too late for Marcelo, and pronounced dead in the hospital.

Sharksider said that in case of a shark attack, be as calm as possible. Panicking results in water splashes, and sharks will come near as though you are food. The rule of thumb in the attack is to stay in one piece. If the shark retreats, warn other beachgoers and get out of the water.

They also clarified that sharks don't like the human taste; it slows their metabolism, making it hard to digest too many bones. Sharks also have the best visions; if a shark sees lily-white legs dipping into the deeper waters, they will assume your next lunch.

Mako sharks are known for their incredible leaping ability and can be seen jumping over extreme heights when hunting; they also have a history of human attacks on small boats at sea.
