A new study showed that artificial intelligence (AI) might result in explosive scenarios akin to nuclear war.
In the most recent study titled "What Do NLP Researchers Believe? Results of the NLP Community Metasurvey," About a third of the respondents think this may occur.
Different technologies nowadays rely on artificial intelligence to function better.
Numerous businesses and organizations now employ AI systems due to the good outcomes.
However, other experts think that the world might suffer more due to the judgments made by machine learning algorithms.
AI 'Might Cause' Nuclear War-Like Catastrophe Events
A significant 36 percent of respondents, according to IFL Science, believed that AI might have disastrous effects.
"It is plausible that decisions made by AI or machine learning systems could cause a catastrophe this century that is at least as bad as an all-out nuclear war," said researchers in an official document.
However, the study's authors made it clear that 36 percent of them have grave concerns about the harmful effects of artificial intelligence systems.
They stated that, even if AI has unfavorable effects, they are less severe than catastrophic occurrences like nuclear war.

Some respondents voiced their disapproval of the phrase "all-out nuclear war" in the comments area, stating that they "would agree with less extreme phrasings of the issue."
Researchers explained that the 36 percent of respondents who are concerned about the adverse effects of AI systems are an "underestimate."
However, 73 percent of respondents concur that work automation brought on by AI has a real chance of bringing about radical social upheaval in this century, at least on the same scale as the Industrial Revolution.
Researchers overwhelmingly agreed that natural language processing has a beneficial overall influence on the world, both today (89 percent) and in the future (87 percent) while being apprehensive of the potentially disastrous effects of AGI.
Will AI Cause Catastrophic Events?
An expert from Google DeepMind previously highlighted those unavoidable catastrophes might not be brought on by artificial intelligence and machine learning technology.
As the researchers point out, AGI is a contentious subject in the industry.
There are strong disagreements on whether people are moving in that direction, whether everyone should be striving for it at all, and what would happen when mankind reaches that point.
Although it is not conceivable, the researchers said that it is nonetheless likely to occur.
An existential disaster is not only possible but also likely, according to experts.
He went on to say that the likelihood that AI would disastrous catastrophes is three out of every fifteen.
