In the first live-action Cinderella movie by Disney that opens in the United States and world's movie theaters on March 13, 2015, Lily James plays the role of Ella, the poor peasant girl who finally marries the prince. On the promotional material for 2015's Disney's live-action Cinderella movie, her fans just didn't believe how slender her waist looked. They suspected digital manipulation was used to achieve her perfect appearance.
This negative speculation was denied by Lily, claiming her waist to be naturally slim. She said it's the gown that makes her waistline look even smaller. "In the blue dress, it was designed so that it was really pulled in at the waist. But also, the fact that the skirt's so big, it's almost an illusion," said James to the press. "It looks way smaller than it is." She further said her waist is pressed in such a way that her waistline is actually 17 inches slimmer when wearing the gown corset.
The ball gown was designed by Sandy Powell and she intentionally made both the dress and the skirt extended in such a way as to make sure she conveys the image of slimness, which is the ideal standard of perfection and health - something that any Prince Charming would love.
There is also a negative comment directed to the actor who plays Prince Charming. Richard Madden is said to have made his eyes bluer in the movie by wearing blue contact lenses, but this speculation was denied by the movie director Kenneth Branagh.
"He was not wearing blue contact lenses," Branagh remarked. "He has very, very striking blue eyes and when beautifully lit by Haris Zambarloukos, these make for a very strong impact. We did not Photoshop Lily's waist... everything you see is what was there."
