Elon Musk brought a new chatbot through open AI called ChatGPT, which can do a lot of things. However, using it may come with a price; read more.
What is ChatGPT
ChatGPT is a chatbot launched by Open AI in November 2022. The developer trained it to interact conversationally. It can answer follow-up questions, admits mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and even reject inappropriate requests.
This computer program is a sibling model to InstructGPT, which is trained to follow instructions in a prompt and provide detailed responses.
Aside from conversing with the user, ChatGPT is a generative AI tool. The "G" in "GPT" stands for "Generative," indicating its ability to generate text, according to New Indian Express.
Millions have used it to generate content - short stories, doctorate theses, term papers, dissertations, film scripts, menus, and more.
P is for "pre-training," which involves using a model from one machine learning assignment to train another model, much to how people use previously learned information when learning something new. ChatGPT offers a substantial amount of text to use for pre-training. T stands for "Transformer," a neural network that examines the connections between all the elements of a data sequence.
The data for ChatGPT consists of a sentence's worth of words. Artificial intelligence has become increasingly common in recently utilized apps, tools, and gadgets. 'Powered by AI' is frequently the core feature of a product, but it is also occasionally a marketing ploy. Computers are currently learning new information and making decisions like humans.
ChatGPT Pros and Cons
ChatGPT makes writing content for bloggers, freelancers, or content creators easier and faster. Plus, according to Search Engine Journal (SEJ), it creates and distributes SEO-worthy content.
It can also answer complex questions conversationally. It uses revolutionary technology to learn what humans mean when asking questions. Many are amazed at its human-quality responses.
However, it still comes with limitations. It is programmed not to provide toxic or harmful responses. So it will avoid those types of questions.
Its answers are also not always correct. It is trained to provide answers that feel right to humans, not necessarily accurate. And it may appear confident in its incorrect responses.
Open AI's ChatGPT Comes With a Price
Jeffrey Salkin wrote a blog about his experience with ChatGPT. He registered for the program, typed in a series of questions, and weighed in on the program's responses.
He asked ChatGPT several questions about religion and the afterlife, and it gave pretty decent responses, especially on intellectual questions.
As SEJ noted, ChatGPT provides answers depending on the quality of the questions. The outlet noted that expert directions prompt the program to generate better responses.
Salkin also asked spiritual questions like what would happen to him when he died. ChatGPT mentioned the afterlife and the different religious and philosophical traditions having different beliefs.
It also pointed out that it is a large language model trained by OpenAI and doesn't have personal beliefs or experiences, so it cannot provide a definitive answer to the question.
Overall, Salkin said its advantages are noticeable but not the disadvantages. He reminded the people that this kind of technology comes with a price - it can cost us our thinking, critical faculties, and intellectual curiosity. Being too dependent on this type of AI tool will also rob us of our ability to research, read, desire to create great literature, and more.
