An English Settler holds the record for having the longest tongue in a living dog. Its owners shared how they noticed their fur baby's long tongue.

English Settler Is a Guinness Book of Records Holder

A 3-year-old English Settler named Bisbee from Tucson, Arizona became a new world record holder for having the longest tongue in a living canine.

Bisbee's tongue measures 3.74 inches (9.49 cm). It is longer than a lolly and droops out of his mouth like a flap ham. However, he keeps it inside his mouth most of the time unless he is exhausted and panting.

The previous record-holder was Mochi, a St. Bernard from Sioux Falls in South Dakota. Mochi's tongue was 7.3 inches long.

However, Mochi passed away in 2021. She held the record for the longest tongue on a living dog for over five years before she died.

Mochi's tongue was equivalent to a two-and-a-half Jenga block. Her owner Carla said Mochi touched many hearts, especially those she met.

She faced neglect and abuse before she ended up in a Big Dogs Huge Paws rescue and was taken home by Carla and her "furever" family at the age of 2.

Mochi's record-breaking heels led her to hundred appearances over the last four years in schools, TV shows, book signing events, nursing homes, and animal rescues.

She was also featured on one of the covers of Amazing Animals, a Guinness World Records book published in 2017.

According to Daily Mail, dogs use their tongues to regulate heat.

More About Bisbee, the New Record Holder

In an interview with Guinness World Records, Bisbee lives with Jay and Ericka Johnson. They got him at a charity auction when he was just a puppy. They immediately fell in love with the English Settler pup, so he went home with them that night.

Erika said he noticed how long Bisbee's tongue was, so he sent pictures of him panting to her sister and dad, and they thought it could be a world record. Ericka said she tried to measure Bisbee's tongue but had trouble when he was awake because he was moving and would pull it away from her.

Bisbee was sedated while at the vet when his tongue was measured. According to Jay, Bisbee wants to spend much of his time in the pool and will probably be there all day if they allow him, even in winter. He also loves to bark at the UPS and Amazon guy, and they're trying to train him to bark less at deliveries.

Apparently, Bisbee was being protective of his owners by barking at the strangers because Jay said he was the most affectionate dog he had ever owned. Bisbee loves to cuddle every night and has borderline separation anxiety. He loves to follow them around and see what they are doing.

Jay added that Bisbess is sweet and gentle. However, he is suffering from hip dysplasia, which reduces the amount of exercise he gets.
