Beauty cannot be formally defined. However, our society has formed an impression of what beauty should look like. Surprisingly (or perhaps not so surprisingly to some), this impression has been developed through billboards, models, and fashion magazines.
Though blonde hair has always gotten more attention and attraction from men, it was not until the rise of Marilyn Monroe that the "blondes have more fun" and other clichés began to rise.
According to the recent reports from the Daily Mail, however, men find women with darker hair more sexually attractive.
This study was performed by a social networking website, Badoo. They conducted a survey on 2,000 men who were asked to select their preferred women.
More than 60 percent of the men reported that they prefer "raven-haired" women, 29 percent reported that they prefer black haired women, and 9 percent preferred redheads.
In a separate study conducted by Viren Swami and Seishin Berrett, they tested men's preference between blondes and brunettes.
In the first study, they employed a female test subject who sat in the nightclubs for a few weeks. Throughout the experiment, she changed her hair color three times - blonde, brunette, and red. The researchers counted how many men approached her during the one-hour period.
She was approached by 60 men when she had blonde hair, while 42 found her appealing when she was a brunette. The results were clearly in favor of the blonde color.
In their second experiment, they presented a group of men with a picture of the same women but with different hair colors. Men reported that the brunette version of the women looked more attractive.
This raises the question: If men found the brunettes more attractive in the second study, then why did they approach the blonde woman more frequently than the brunette in the bar?
According to Swami and Berrett, blonde women are considered to be more approachable in public situations, and that men find blonde women to be more needy. Maxine Frith from The Independent says that blonde hair has always been viewed as a symbol of youth, which men find attractive.
