In the 1990s, there were predictions from futurists that the present-day would see humans living underwater or cruising around in flying cars. However, experts are now warning of a much more daunting future. According to MailOnline, tech gurus are predicting a world in 2050 where humans are enslaved by artificial intelligence (AI) or large parts of the world have become uninhabitable due to climate change.
While some believe that humans will make contact with extraterrestrial life, the potential implications of such an encounter are still unclear. Despite these dark forecasts, some believe that technology will make it possible for humans to enter the afterlife.
AI Takeover: Being Ruled By AI Might Also Mean Living Beyond Death
George Stakhov, Chief Strategy Officer at DDB EMEA, told the news outlet that the reality could be much worse than losing jobs due to AI in the future. He predicts that by 2050 AI will have a profound impact on the world, with the possibility of a "dark AI future," where those who control AI will gain significant power, and 99% of the population will be disenfranchised.
Alternatively, a "bright AI scenario" could emerge, where everyone benefits from AI through better healthcare, faster transportation, and less pollution, and a basic wage becomes common, freeing up time for leisure activities. Stakhov believes the future will likely be somewhere between the two scenarios.
Furthermore, Asia Net News reports that Dr. Ajaz Ali from Ravensbourne University, also suggests that AI could "capture" people using motion capture tools and recordings, creating a "digital twin" that can "live on" after death. People could interact with these digital twins in real time, benefiting from their knowledge and ideas, allowing loved ones to interact with relatives who have already passed on.
Advanced AI Gadgets
Venture Beat reported that AI-powered personalization will be more popular in the future. It is a technology that uses machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and other techniques to personalize a brand's marketing messages, content, products, and services, leading to more profitable customer journeys and transforming the way brands engage with their customers.
An example of that is having personalized TV shows and films generated by AI as ARK Immersive CEO and founder Matt Littler predicts. More so, GoStudent Director of Future Labs Alexander Nick thinks that glasses will start delivering on-screen email notifications and directions within the next decade.
Microchips Inside Human Body
Heather Delaney, founder of a tech PR and comms consultancy in London, predicts that by 2050 people will commonly implant chips inside their bodies for health monitoring and human enhancement, which is known as biohacking, and believes it will enable people to improve their health. Today, Elon Musk's Neuralink is trying to do just that.
Finding Extraterrestrial Life
Astronomer Seth Shostak predicted that humans will discover intelligent life within two dozen years and has since doubled down on his forecast, citing newer measurements that suggest there could be billions of Earth-like worlds.
If Earth is the only place with life, it would be a one-in-a-billion lottery win, which he considers an argument for life in space as it would be exceptional if Earth is only planet with life.
