Artificial Intelligence (AI) has several applications. However, even tech experts warned that it could lead to human extinction.

AI Could Drive Human Extinction

Out of 2,778 AI experts surveyed by an international team of scientists regarding the future of the systems, 25% predicted that technology would destroy the human race.

One in 10 researchers, however, made an even more alarming prediction, estimating that there is a startling 25% probability that AI will wipe out the human species.

The experts listed three potential reasons for the possibility of AI's takeover, which include the following: (1) authoritarian rulers using AI to control their populations; (2) AI systems worsening economic inequality by disproportionately benefiting certain individuals; and (3) AI enabling threatening groups to create powerful tools, like engineered viruses.

Experts were asked about four specific professions - truck drivers, surgeons, retail salespeople, and AI researchers- that they believed would become automatable for the poll. The experts said there is a 50% probability AI will fully take over those jobs by 2116.

"It's an important signal that most AI researchers don't find it strongly implausible that advanced AI destroys humanity," said Katja Grace, one of the study authors. "I think this general belief in a non-minuscule risk is much more telling than the exact percentage risk."

Meanwhile, roughly 58 percent of researchers were more optimistic about AI's takeover, saying there's only a five percent chance it would cause human extinction.

What to Expect From AI Chatbot This Year

Rob Waugh, the Daily Mail's tech writer, questioned two of the most popular chatbots, Bard from Google and Claude from Amazon, on their predictions for 2024.

The first AI models may have "artificial general intelligence" (AGI) symptoms, according to Claude.ai's prediction. A hypothetical intelligent agent known as artificial general intelligence (AGI) is predicted to execute any intellectual task that a person can, thereby radically changing human society. Claude.ai said that two possible problems with AI are workers' inability to adapt to changing circumstances and unpredictable system behavior.

In addition, AI may contribute to further advancements in personalized treatment in the following year. Personalized medicine, also known as precision medicine, aims to tailor treatment and preventive strategies to each patient's unique genetic, environmental, and behavioral traits.

In this endeavor, AI is starting to disrupt the game and propel advances in several healthcare fields. Electronic Health Records (EHRs) can be mined by artificial intelligence (AI) to uncover hidden patterns and relationships between symptoms, medications, and outcomes. This may lead to recommendations for customized therapy and more accurate diagnoses.

Bard projected that technological advances that "upgrade" humanity would occur around 2024. According to Google's AI chatbot, this might involve advancements in "Brain-Computer Interfaces," or connecting computers and human brains.

Furthermore, AI might help make individualized treatment even more advanced in the coming year.
