Some organisms in the animal kingdom are remarkably inactive or "lazy." Let's take a look at some of the most inactive ones.
Laziest Animals
Lions
While these big cats may have a muscular physique that makes them jungle kings and queens, they are actually notorious sleepers. Female lions, who do more hunting and babysitting, actually sleep for roughly 18 hours a day. Males, on the other hand, spend over 20 hours dozing off. Resting for a full day typically happens after or to prepare for a big kill.
Sloths
Known for being slow and lazy, there's a good reason behind sloth's reputation. Among all mammals, sloths are the slowest. In fact, they barely move more than 100 feet each day, which is equivalent to less than half of a whole football field.
Their low metabolic rate makes them expend less energy. Because of this, they can motionlessly hang from branches for hours. This also allows an algae coat to grow over their bodies.
Pygmy Blue Tongue Lizard
These creatures do not enjoy interactions with the world. They are also hyper cautious when it comes to predation.
Pygmy blue tongue lizards spend their lives hanging in spider caves. They also do not leave unless they are forced to do so. For them to be sustained, they sit with open mouths and just wait for food to enter it. The same is the case for their water consumption. They just depend on raindrops that fall on their tongues.
Koala
While koalas are cute huggers, they are also lazy animals. These creatures can sleep for up to 20 hours a day. Their slumber state is largely related to food. Since their diet mostly comprises eucalyptus, which is extremely rich in fiber, it requires most of their energy to digest the food.
Hippopotamus
The gargantuan size of hippos could largely explain their laziness. They sleep for roughly 16 to 20 hours a day and nap in big groups. They can nap in either land or water.
During the night, they lurk around the area to search for food. When they come across a fertile land stretch, they can stand in the same area for up to five hours and graze there.
Pythons
While pythons are known to be fierce, they are actually lazy reptiles that sleep for up to 18 hours a day. However, when they are awake, they slither extremely fast.
Pythons eat just once a week. It also takes them a lot of energy to digest prey. On top of this, their energy is also sucked by the shredding of skin.
