In this ever changing, progressive and fast paced life now, we all try to give in our time and effort into our work. People, especially those who work in big cities with 9 to 5 clocks, still work beyond office hours, either for the money or for the position. Some of us just brand ourselves as workaholics and tend to brush it off as something that keeps us going.
Research showed that the long hours you spend at work can substantially increase the risk of stroke and coronary heart diseases. Although the link between the stress of work and the health risks have not been directly proven, studies of the University College London on several cases of more than half a million working men and women who were observed for 8.5 years showed that those who work 41 to 48 hours per week had 10 percent higher risk and those who gives 49 to 54 had 27 percent has higher risk in developing health issues. And finally working more than 55 hours per week could get you 33 percent for stroke and 13 percent for cardiovascular heart disease. This could be to added stress and unhealthy lifestyle.
Researcher from The Lancet, who published a study on how the long hours could affect your health, said that "There was no evidence of between-study heterogeneity, reverse causation bias, or confounding, furthermore, the association did not vary between men and women or by geographical region, and was independent of the method of stroke ascertainment, suggesting that the finding is robust."
Stroke and Cardio Vascular Disease can both be accounted for poor lifestyle such as vices, food and lack of exercise. Currently, you could see companies that add fitness regime on their program, gym and yoga memberships, company fitness centers and nap rooms, also sports programs, in assuring the health of their employees. The only issue here would be the willingness of the people to participate as it would rob them of the free time they have left.
