Nowadays, doctors urge people to avoid prescribed drug medications in case of chronic pains particularly for the lower back pain. Perhaps, they suggested alternative and helpful medications instead on the use of pain killers.
USAToday reported that it was America's top federal agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which urges the avoidance of prescribed drugs and pain killers. The agency has released guidelines for the purpose of dispensing the pain killers for lower back pain except for cancer patient treatment. However, the CDC still monitors the prescription of these pain killers for end-of-life care patients at the lowest possible dose.
This is the reason why for lower back pain and other usual pain felt in the body, prescribed drugs are not always recommended. Alternatively, there are other methods which doctors recommend to remove back pain. NBCNews pointed out several ways to cure pains without the use of prescribed drugs medications.
To note, patients who are suffering from lower back pain are recommended to try some heat wraps and exercise. Furthermore, the American College of Physicians has released new guidelines based on their studies which greatly pertain in removing back pain. The ACP pointed out the patients should select nonpharmacological treatment instead of prescribed drugs. These treatments include superficial heat massage, spinal manipulation, and the popular acupuncture.
Also, the ACP quoted in their guidelines, "For patients with chronic lower back pain, non-drug therapy should be tried first such as massage, exercise and heat wraps." However, the ACP insisted that these therapies must be performed only by health care providers with proper training. The exercises for back pain includes multidisciplinary rehabilitation, tai chi, motor control, yoga, operant therapy and more.
Consequently, if the lower back pain is still intact and these alternative medications do not help, second is to try over-the-counter drugs. These drugs include naproxen and ibuprofen to remove the back pain or even lessen it. Lastly, if still nothing works, the use of opioids can be considered as the last resort to stop the back pain.
