There are many questions whether quinoa rice is better than brown rice. For starters, quinoa rice is indeed healthy; however, not everything about it is better than brown rice.
Prevention has concluded that quinoa rice is better in many aspects than brown rice. In their comparison, there were 16 categories: calories, fat content, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, vitamin B3, zinc, folate, manganese selenium. The quinoa rice was better in 10 aspects, most of them were minerals.
Quinoa rice is better in carbohydrates; it has 2% less of it. The one quinoa is famous for, protein; it has 3 grams more of it than brown rice. It also has 7% more fiber for a faster metabolism. Other were, 1% more calcium, 9% more magnesium, 12% more iron, 18% more phosphorus, 7% more potassium, 5% more zinc, 18% more folate.
On the contrary, brown rice has less sodium, 3 mg less. It also has more niacin or Vitamin B3 that helps lower cholesterol; 11% more than quinoa rice. In manganese section, it is 30% better. When it comes to antioxidants that help get rid of dirt in your body, brown rice is better than quinoa. It has 20% more of it.
Also if a person is on a diet and he/she really wants to lose weight, Pop Sugar has recommended eating brown rice. Since it is better when it comes to lower fat content and calories, it is definitely greater than quinoa rice. Moreover, it is cheaper than quinoa rice.
"Certain foods are becoming 'trends' now. It skews people's perceptions, as they think a food is somehow healthier because it's a trend," nutrition coach Carrie McMahon explained. She has been telling her clients to eat what they prefer because there is not much difference between the two.
People should eat what they prefer in staying healthy. Different individuals need different nutrients in their body. Whether it is quinoa or brown rice, as long as it is healthy, it is fine.
